It's time to make a big Adventure Sandwich!

Finding Belovezhskaya Forest Part II: Hiding City

Picture

Lucid Street Theatre, Oracle Productions and Theatre Rond of Minsk, Belarus recently came together for an exciting collaboration. The three groups combined forces in a deliriously fast-paced devising session which explored common themes found in US and Belarusian folk traditions, utilizing live music, shadow puppetry, and ensemble movement to create a 35-minute performance. Finding Belovezhskaya Forest told the story of travelers seeking out the "flower of the fern," a mystical flower which blooms only once a year, and which has the power to bestow untold happiness upon whoever is lucky enough to acquire it.

This collaboration was made possible through support from the Trust for Mutual Understanding and the generous donors who participated in our Kickstarter campaign.

Up next: Belarusian artists plan to travel to Chicago in Summer of 2012 to build upon the working methods which were developed during 2011's initial collaboration, devising a new piece based on the folk tale of Lake Switez and its sunken, long hidden city.

a/part (like before we even were, but with no after)

a/part* is an exploration of a possible future, using dance, ensemble movement, original text and music to create a world in which mankind has died out, but its strange, plasticine legacy lives on. . . and on. . . and on . . .

*This project is supported by a Community Arts Assistance Program grant from the City of Chicago Department of      Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.

"
Once, ages past,

before we melted
                  molded
             changed
                    10, 000 times,
we were held

in the hands of the makers
     and felt life breathing
 in all else around.

                             We remember.
 Bits of us remember. . . ."

What's next?      After a successful work-in-progress showing in 2010 for the Lisa Dershin LinkUP Residency, Lucid Street Theatre                                           is currently seeking funding and residency opportunities to further the development and production of a/part.
Wait and see what becomes of these shifting, cracking pieces of personified plastic, as the next stage of evolution takes shape.
